This collection includes images from disparate eras circa 1900-1979, all presumably depicting members of the Ancient and Honorable Mechanical Company of Baltimore. There are several group portraits of men in fire-fighting outfits circa 1900, at the Star Spangled Banner Centennial in 1914, and at annual banquets in 1947 and 1958.
This collection contains photographs of the Baltimore Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1880. Images primarily reveal Baltimore City streets, monuments, hotels, and businesses, as well as event decorations, group portraits, and parade floats.
The papers of J. Alexis Shriver (1872-1951) are contained in 17 boxes and number approximately 3,000 items. Shriver was a business administrator, public celebrations organizer, local history buff, and collector of manuscripts. The latter three aspects of his life are represented best in this collection, which spans the years 1790 to 1945.
