American Colonization Society photograph collection
This collection contains photographs of the towns, people, dignitaries, and officials in Liberia and Sierra Leone, West Africa. Also included are images of the towns of Monrovia and Harper, as well as a map of the township of Harper at Cape Palmas, Liberia. The dates of the collection span 1860-1869.
Bureau of Recreation photograph collection
The Bureau of Recreation photograph collection comprises four boxes of photographic prints and some film negatives depicting activities sponsored by the Baltimore Bureau of Recreation, the Playground Athletic League, and the Children’s Playground Association from 1911 to 1936.
Carlton Dates correspondence
The collection contains correspondence from Carlton Dates to his wife and daughter in Baltimore, Maryland while he was serving in the United States Navy during World War II. These letters yield a picture of the life of a Black serviceman and his family during the war.
Coale general store ledger
Colonial Maryland general store ledger kept by William and Thomas Coale at Elkridge Landing, with entries from April 29, 1766 to 1797.
Davenport photograph album
The Davenport photograph album contains 92 photographs of the Gray family. The images are primarily unidentified portraits showing the family in backyards, parks, and at the beach. Photographs are mostly undated, but appear to be from the 1920’s and 30’s.
Edwin Warfield manuscript collection
This collection contains scrapbooks and correspondence related to Governor Edwin Warfield’s career. The scrapbooks hold newspaper clippings, correspondence, and more about major issues Warfield faced as governor, especially on environmental issues such as oyster preservation and game and hunting laws. A large portion of correspondence is related to the proposed Poe Amendment.
Fitzhugh-Tyson papers
The collection consists of letters, a memoir, and newspaper clippings related to two prominent Maryland families, the Fitzhughs and Tysons. Of note are materials related to the Shelter for Orphans of Colored Soldiers and Friendless Colored Children as well as the Shelter for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons. Isabella Tyson (1823-1903) was involved with both of these Baltimore, Maryland charitable organizations.
Glenn L. Martin oral history collection
The Glenn L. Martin oral history collection contains interviews with four women who worked for the Glenn L. Martin aircraft company during World War II. Interviewed between 1995-1996, the narrators discuss how they came to live in Baltimore, their housing communities and jobs in the plant, and the overall effect of World War II on the home front.
Growing Suburbs oral history collection
The Growing Suburbs oral history collection contains seven interviews with individuals with knowledge or first-hand experience of the suburbanization that took place around Baltimore following World War II, circa 1950-1970. The narrators include city planners, developers, and Baltimore citizens who left the city for the suburbs.
H. Hanford Hopkins photograph albums
This collection includes nine albums of photographs of Howard Hanford Hopkins, II (1848-1906) and his family and friends in New Market, Frederick County, Maryland. Many of the images were photographed by Hopkins.
