J. Alexis Shriver papers
The papers of J. Alexis Shriver (1872-1951) are contained in 17 boxes and number approximately 3,000 items. Shriver was a business administrator, public celebrations organizer, local history buff, and collector of manuscripts. The latter three aspects of his life are represented best in this collection, which spans the years 1790 to 1945.

James McHenry papers
This collection contains five letters from James McHenry to his fiance and later wife, Margaret "Peggy" Caldwell, as well as one letter from Peggy to James, 1783-1789. Also included is an August 1776 letter to James McHenry from Dr. Benjamin Rush, James McHenry's 1781 commission from Congress as major, and an 1822 letter from John Eager Howard Jr. to his brother, Benjamin Chew Howard.

This collection spans the years 1651-1917 and is mostly an autograph collection consisting chiefly of letters written between 1768-1913 by contemporary and historical persons, usually elected MD officials as well as Revolutionary War dignitaries, Civil War combatants, U. S. Presidents, and many prominent men of the time.
