This collection contains the personal correspondence and diaries of Charles Sidney Winder, a captain in the United States army and later a Confederate general who was killed in 1862. Also included is a letter from McHenry Howard to Winder's widow describing her husband's death, as well as newspaper clippings detailing the Battle of Cedar Mountain, the conflict in which Winder was killed. The collection spans 1852-1862.
